In v10, the instant VM recovery capability performs much better than in previous versions. In addition to enabling multiple instant VM recovery tasks at once, Veeam has revisited the performance of the instant VM recovery feature. Veeam Backup & Replication v10 allows multiple instant recoveries at once This feature is going to be extremely powerful for ransomware attacks and other situations where file data needs to be restored quickly. Another aspect of the NAS Backup is the Quick Rollback feature, which compares the differential of the data that currently exists and the data that exists in the last good backup and uses the delta between the two to quickly restore your environment to a known good state. However, on each subsequent iteration, an extremely fast incremental backup is taken of the file system.
Veeam backup review full#
On the first backup, Veeam Backup & Replication v10 takes a full backup. Only the information that is changed is backed up. This is analogous to the Changed Block Tracking used in backing up VMware virtual machines. Veeam has integrated many great features as part of the NAS Backup feature, including what they refer to as Changed File Tracking. The new NAS Backup feature in Veeam Backup & Replication v10 is the result of this effort. Veeam's goal with the NAS Backup feature is to be completely hardware agnostic and provide a completely software-defined solution for file-level backups. Instead, Veeam has built their NAS backup feature from the ground up. However, NDMP has many limitations, including the ability to restore only to the same type of hardware device from which the backup was taken.
It is designed for network-based backup for network attached storage. NDMP, or Network Data Management Protocol, is an open standard that has been around for quite some time. It is interesting to note that Veeam has not simply taken the route of using the NDMP protocol.
